JuilliART
JuilliART brings visual perspectives into common spaces, providing a rotating series of art works to advance the creative spirit at Juilliard. The initiative supports Juilliard’s mission to provide the whole community with an environment of continual thinking, inquiry, and inspiration. Exhibits can be found around the school, including in the Larkin lobby, President’s Board Room, second-floor outer lobby, and Peter Jay Sharp Theater lobby.
Ellen Reid SOUNDWALK Lincoln Center and Central Park
Created by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer and sound artist Ellen Reid, this free, GPS-enabled work of public art uses music to illuminate the natural environment. Juilliard has commissioned a new SOUNDWALK in Lincoln Center that connects with Reid’s existing work in Central Park via Broadway.
Julie Mehretu’s Myriads, Only By Dark
Featured in the June Noble Larkin Lobby from 2019-2021, New York-based artist Julie Mehretu’s Myriads, Only By Dark is a print series and self-ethnographic project that explores identity, lineage, and unfolding time.
Nicholas Ma’s Suite No. 1, Prelude
Juilliard’s installation features producer Nicholas Ma’s film Suite No. 1, Prelude—a loving portrait of his father, Yo-Yo Ma as he recorded Bach’s Cello Suites for the final time—and select audio recordings of the suites.
Keith Haring’s Boxers and Stones
The inaugural JuilliART exhibit featured a display of American artist Keith Haring’s lithographs and steel sculpture, made possible by the Keith Haring Foundation. The spirit of the exhibit followed Haring’s statement that “art is for everyone.”
Mohamad Hafez and Ahmed Badr’s UNPACKED: Refugee Baggage
In spring 2019, Juilliard hosted UNPACKED, a multimedia installation by artist and architect Mohamad Hafez and writer and speaker Ahmed Badr that sought to humanize the word refugee.
